The small picturesque market town of Saint Savinien sur Charente has all you need if you want to ditch the car and stay closer to home with its bars, cafes and a small selection of shops, not forgetting its twice weekly market for fresh local produce, but most importantly is the river Charente which runs through the center of the town, providing not only a picture postcard place to stay but also various water sports, such as canoeing, kayaking and boat hire, further up the river at nearby Taillebourg there is water skiing and wakeboarding available, from beginners through to advanced.
In addition St Savinien offers a series of wonderful outdoor heated pools, which are just a very short walk from the house, here you can laze on the grassy banks and go for the occasional dip, or swim, dive and slide to your hearts content, there is also a small cafe on site, so a great place to spend the whole afternoon, or for older children to have a bit of independence on their own.
At No 63, we are happy to lend you our own canoes and kayaks for the duration of your stay, meaning you can explore the river around St Savinien, or even canoe up to the nearby villages of Port d'envaux and Taillebourg, stop for lunch and drift back!
No 63 is located less than half an hour away from the Atlantic coast and its silver beaches, where you can surf, swim or just or just soak up the sun on unspoilt beaches
One of the many benefits of being in St Savinien is its small train station, from here you can hop on a train and go to La Rochelle, Saintes or Bordeaux for the day, for those wishing to leave their car at home there are daily flights during the summer into La Rochelle and then it's just a short train ride into St Savinien, making this an ideal place for a long weekend or mid week getaway.
La Rochelle is a must, its a beautiful city with an abundance of pavement cafes along the old port, fabulous restaurants, architecture, museums and of course, shopping
Being in the Charente Maritime in addition to our fabulous beaches we of course have the wonderful vineyards of Bordeaux, Charentaise Pineau and not forgetting the infamous Cognac 'maisons', such as Remy Martin, Hennessy and Martell, all of which offer tours and of course, obligatory tasting!
Locally to us we have excellent facilities for horse riding, tennis, fishing and golf.
Our local riding stables are happy to welcome riders of all abilities and ages and can organise anything from an hours hack through to a full day or week camp for those who would rather spend their time in the saddle than on the water.
We have fabulous outdoor tennis courts in the town, which are available
There are also a number of very good golf courses in the area
